Good afternoon everyone,

I am writing with 4 pieces of news

Public Board Closure (WE ARE OPEN) – The potential one day strike announced by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) will not affect WCDSB elementary and secondary schools. Our school will be open as usual on Wednesday and running on a normal schedule.

Winter Weather – There is some winter weather coming our way tomorrow; this seemed like a good time to remind the kids to come dressed for the elements.  Please dress warmly and be prepared to be outside for all recesses. The following are the guidelines we follow for keeping the students indoors in cases of extreme temperatures: when the temperature is between -15°C and -19°C: students may remain outside for no longer than 20 minutes at a time; when temperatures are colder than -19°C: students must remain inside. Temperatures and conditions vary across the Region. The following website shall be used to assess local conditions: www.weather.ca   If winter weather ever becomes extreme and school or buses are being cancelled those announcements are made on the board and school website as well as through local radio stations.

Lunch Hour Supervisors (LHS) – we are in need of and are hiring one daily LHS position at St. John’s. We are also looking for adults in the community that might be interested in filling in for this role from time to timer on a suppl;y list. This is a one hour paid position; anyone interested please contact Mr. Gladding or Mrs. Macdonald at the school office.

Parking Lot Woes – anyone who has ever tried to pick up students at the end of the day here knows that it can be a problem and often turns into a traffic jam that stops our buses from getting out. I will be outside at the end of the day for the next couple of days handing out a set of rules and a map that should help to improve this problem.

Stay warm and have a good evening,

Paul Gladding
