A few notes of Gratitude:

Our sincere appreciation is extended to all our committed staff for their dedicated efforts ~ each and every day. The above list of opportunities provided to students would not have been possible without them. Staffing challenges existed in many sectors, including education and at St. John’s, but we adapted daily working together and taking on various roles to ensure that students were supported in their learning AND having fun!

Thank you to our St. John’s parent community.  Your yearlong commitment to supporting your children and working with the school has been so important. Your plates were overflowing at home and work, but you made a commitment to supporting the staff through your positive actions and encouraging words. You also provided financial support to the events and activities we were able to provide for our students. With your continued support, we look forward to another outstanding year in 2024-25! A special thank you to Mrs. Antje Hurlburt who delivered our pizzas to classrooms EVERY Thursday and helped organize our Community Cafes. We could not have done this without you!

Gratitude for our students who came to school eager and ready to learn. Students, you are to be acknowledged for your determination, resilience, and hard work. Remember, each challenge you faced has made you stronger! Embrace the upcoming break, recharge, and return with renewed energy!

To our Graduates… we could not be more proud of you. You showed us your faithfulness during your time at St. John’s! Now, as you move onto high school, may you go through ALL your days with courage, authenticity, and a willingness to be the best version of yourself! Remember to do what is right not what is popular.  May God bless you on your journey. Congratulations to our Class of 2024!

To Mr. Figueiredo, our Vice Principal…we are so grateful for your leadership at St. John’s over the past year. You will truly be missed in the community. We know you will be a wonderful addition to the St. Anne’s CES community in Cambridge. We wish you all the very best! God Bless you, Mr. Figueiredo!

As we wrap up this school year, we bid farewell to a number of members in our St. John’s community. To the students who are moving on to new schools in 2024-25, we wish you all the best as you meet new friends and make great memories.

This is a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Indigenous Peoples of Canada. The day was first celebrated as National Aboriginal Day in 1996 and is to be celebrated annually on June 21st.  This date was chosen for many reasons, including its cultural significance as the Summer Solstice, and the fact that it is a day on which many Indigenous Peoples and communities traditionally celebrate their heritage. It was renamed National Indigenous Peoples Day in 2017.

Supporting Your Child’s Math Learning K to 8, Parent Survey

Dear Families,

Schools offer a variety of opportunities for parents to learn more about how to support their children: for example, events related to mathematics may be held at the school (e.g., family math nights); teachers may provide newsletters or communicate with parents through apps or social media; and school or board websites may provide helpful tips about how parents can engage in their child’s mathematics learning outside of school and may even provide links where they can learn more or enjoy math activities together.

The following brief survey will assist our school district in gathering data about how parents/families feel in terms of being informed about what their children are learning in math, how parents/families feel about supporting their children’s learning in math, and about parental access to math learning resources at home.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and participation.

https://bit.ly/SupportingMathAtHomeSurvey2024

This survey will remain open until June 14, 2024.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the collection of this information please contact K-12 Mathematics Coordinator, Board Math Lead, Petra LeDuc at petra.leduc@wcdsb.ca , 519-578-3660 extension 2415.

Called to Belong Prayer

Creating God, out of your great love you created all things. After the flood you crafted the rainbow and placed it in the sky as a reminder that you love everything and everyone you have created.

Yes, each individual colour of the rainbow is beautiful but its true beauty is found in the way that the colours are beautiful together. We are all called to belong, and we are most beautiful when we are together.

As human beings you crafted each of us in unique, distinctive and wonderful ways.

Some of us identify as 2SLGBTQIA+

No matter how you created us, we are all made in your image and likeness.

May all of your children come together and hold hands in peace and harmony. May we all work together for a world where acceptance, equity, justice, and celebration are possible for every person.

As the love of Jesus on the Cross extended to all people, by the power of your Holy Spirit may we love and embrace everyone in the same way.

Amen.

Fr. Joseph de Viveiros C.R.

June is the month traditionally devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus which, for Catholics, is a sign and symbol of God’s boundless and passionate love for all humanity. The month of June is also designated as PRIDE season in Waterloo region and across Ontario. This month, and each and every month, our Catholic schools are committed to nurturing safe and inclusive learning environments where every student and every member of the community is welcomed, valued, and respected.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board celebrates diversity within our school communities and welcomes and values all children. We honour the inherent dignity in all of our 2SLGBTAQIA+ staff, students, parents and family members by treating one another with sensitivity, compassion, and respect. As Catholics, we believe that each of us is made in the image and likeness of God. We are called to see each other through God’s eyes – with sensitivity, compassion, and respect, and we see God in one another –wonderfully made, just as we are. As we live, learn, and work together, we encourage one another to celebrate the glorious discovery of how we are made and loved by a God who knows us intimately and who invites us into a deeper relationship with Himself.

Together, we will build a strong community that is committed to lifting up others, repairing harms of the past, and creating a better tomorrow for all. #Strengthen

Thunder Update: Catholic Education Week 2024

Let us begin this week with our Catholic Education Week Prayer

Love is our calling, and the goal for which you have made us.
As we celebrate Catholic Education Week,
may our love in action reveal to our world
that we are people of justice and mercy.
May our daily words and example show clearly
that we are people of faith and hope.
In the ways we reflect you daily,
may everyone recognize us as people of joy.
Help us to never forget how much you love us,
and to cherish your life within us,
which gives energy and direction to our loving.
May we hear your call to love generously and inclusively,
and may we call our world to be more loving also.
All of this we ask in the name of Jesus, our Friend and our Lord. Amen.

Other Information:

Red Dress Day

May 5 marks Red Dress Day, a significant day of remembrance dedicated to raising awareness and honouring the memory of the Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit individuals who have been victims of violence. On this day, people around the community wear red dresses or red clothing on this day as a symbol of remembrance and solidarity. This gesture represents their commitment to recognizing the dignity of every person and aligns with our Catholic values of compassion, justice, and the sanctity of life. We join in prayer and reflection, seeking healing and justice for all affected families and communities, while reaffirming our commitment to building a more inclusive and respectful society.

WCDSB Guardians of the Game

Are you navigating your child’s online world and missed The “Guardians of the Game” webinar, hosted virtually on April 9th? It was a big success, and the guest speakers were incredibly informative and engaging. Not to worry; families who didn’t attend can still access the resources.  View the recording here.
