Catholic Education Week 2023

Catholic Education Week

Sunday is the beginning of Catholic Education Week across Ontario.  We are reminded that We are Many, We are One as we reflect on the theme for #CEW2023.

Our Catholic schools help to form joyful disciples as hearts and minds are opened to the transforming love of God and to the flame of faith in action. On a daily basis, Catholic schools demonstrate the joy of believing and witness the Good News to the communities that they serve.

Please open our letter below for more detailed information about Catholic Education Week.

Mental Health Week

This week is also our national Mental Health Week. At St. John’s, we will continue our learning about stress management and healthy coping skills using resources from School Mental Health Ontario.

Our school Child and Youth Care Worker will continue to work alongside classroom teachers while engaging  in classwide training sessions and activities for students. We will be doing some learning in our classes about the impact of stress on our brains, at age-appropriate levels, to help students understand why it is so valuable for them to practice calming skills such as deep breathing, meditation, journaling, nature walks, etc. It is important to focus on how to name, express, and deal with our emotions – the ones we like and the ones that challenge us –  all are important for our mental health. In addition, our WCDSB Mental Health and Wellbeing page continues to be updated: Mental Health & Well-Being (wcdsb.ca).

This week, we have a number of special events happening in our community.

Monday:

  • CSAC: Catholic School Advisory Council meeting AGENDA
  • 6pm to 7:30pm in the Learning Commons at St. John’s
  • parents/ guardians of current students are welcome to join us!

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

  • Folk Dance Festival at The Aud in Kitchener

Thursday:

  • Grade 8 Graduation photos: 9:30am – 11:30am
  • Mission on the Moon robotics experience…stay tuned!

Catholic Education Week Prayer

We are many, we are one;

we all form one body in Christ.

Lord, when we see the one before us, let us reverence your presence within;

when we listen to one another, let us hear with our hearts;

when we reflect on each encounter, may we discern to understand;

when we learn from those around us, let us respect our differences with joy;

and when we act, may we be kind and generous to all,

for each person is a member of your body, with all that they are.

We are many, we are one. Amen.+

Together, we will build a strong community that is committed to lifting up others, repairing harms of the past, and creating a better tomorrow for all. #Awaken

Administrative Assistant’s Day

The staff and students at St. John’s would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the Administrative Assistants today on “Administrative Assistant’s Day”.  YOU are the face of our schools.  The first smile that our students and families see when they come to us.  YOU are the medical expert, giving ice, providing tissues and paper towels, and handing out medication and inhalers.  YOU are the mental health experts, calming bodies, minds and hearts with ease.  YOU are the ones that our students go to for everything they need; the ones that all staff go to for everything they need; and the ones that our Administrators go to for everything we need.  YOU are the one.

Behind every successful day at school – however, you measure that success – is YOU.  Today we recognize the sacrifices you make in your personal time, your family time and in your lives for the good of our school operations.  We recognize the dedication you have to your communities and we recognize the challenges that you deal with each and every day.

We would like to acknowledge all the work and dedication of Ms. Stephanie Medeiros our lead administrative assistant and Mrs. Stacey Mayer our half-time administrative assistant. We are grateful to both of you for helping to greet late students with a warm smile and calling home to check in on students too, just to highlight a few things you do!

Today we recognize YOU and the impact that you have on our school. You keep us all going!

Thank you both for being a shining light in our community each and every day!
